"Gene Tierney: A Biography"
by MICHELLE VOGELThe newest, most definitive book on this classic film noir actress. Christina Cassini, Gene Tierney's daughter, has written a foreword for the book.
"Gene Tierney: A Biography" is the most complete book ever written on this tragic actress. Together with a collection of many never before seen photographs, "Gene Tierney: A Biography" is a must have for all fans of Gene Tierney and classic Hollywood in general.
Called the most beautiful woman in movie history, Gene Tierney starred in a number of 1940s classics, including Laura, Leave Her to Heaven and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Her on-screen presence and ability to transform into a variety of characters made her a film legend.
Gene Tierney's personal life was a whirlwind of romance (she married a count, was engaged to a prince, and was courted by a future president) and tragedy (her daughter was born with severe retardation and Tierney herself struggled with mental illness). After years of treatment, including electroshock therapy that erased portions of her life from her memory, she triumphantly returned to Hollywood in the biggest comeback of any star in history.
This, the first complete biographical work since the actresses’ death on November 6, 1991, covers everything from her birth in 1920; through her rise to fame, turbulent love life, fight with mental illness, and triumphant return to Hollywood; to her retirement in her 40s and death. An extensive filmography provides the cast and crew of each film and television appearance, production and release dates, running times, and a brief synopsis. Additional information covers locations, box office take, awards, behind-the-scenes details, and memorable quotes. The work includes many rare photographs from both on and off screen.

Michelle Vogel's book, "Gene Tierney: A Biography" should be made into a movie. I have read this book three times in less than six months and continue to find her life so exciting and interesting. And, I keep thinking about how Hollywood loves to make true stories into movies of the week, knowing this book would translate perfectly into that. While Gene's life was tragic, it was also filled with joy. She could act, she had class and beauty and there was much drama behind the scenes of her career, led by her mental illness. I recently asked the ace Columnist for TV Guide, Michael Logan what he thought about these facts, and he said, "The life story of Gene Tierney has it all - glamour, romance, sadness, scandal and insanity. It would make an absolutely spectacular film. In fact, it's somebody's best actress Oscar waiting to happen. Sure, it could be argued that Tierney has been forgotten for so long that the public wouldn't give a damn, but I don't think that's true. The great, tragic lives of Hollywood stars are always worth examining because they inevitably shed lighton those who walk the red carpet today. I think Scarlett Johansson would be an ideal casting choice. She has acting chops, no contest, but also one of those faces that is a true canvas -- a fantastic makeup artist could make her a dead ringer for Tierney!" Until this is reality, you can purchase Michelle's book at: www.michellevogel.com And congratulations to her and her husband Matt on the birth of their healthy baby boy, Ryan Alexander Vogel.

Last year, I was proud to do an advance review of my friend, Michelle Vogel's magnificent written tribute to Gene Tierney. Now that I have the finished product in my hand, I must say to everyone who reveres the Golden Age of Hollywood and the Golden Girls who were the Glamour Actresses of the Thirties and Forties: You must buy this book! Michelle's "labor of love" is a most fitting tribute to one of Hollywood's "angels"-- Gene Tierney. It is a testament to her loveliness, her talent, her sweetness, her hardships, her tragedies and her courage. It is also a testament to the glorious high of Hollywood success at an early age; to beauty unequalled on the Silver Screen; to a girl with warmth, intelligence and charm who appeared to have the World in the palm of her hand, only to have it fall from grasp in a heart beat.
Gene Tierney's story is one that should be put to film. Perhaps Michelle Vogel's fabulous book has laid the groundwork for such a venture.

An Advance Book Review
My wife and I have been avid Gene Tierney fans for many years. So, it is a distinct pleasure to know that Michelle Vogel's new biography of our favorite actress will soon be published. We are privileged to know Michelle and to have had access to a draft manuscript of her book.Anyone who savors the history of the Golden Era of Hollywood and the luster of the Glamour Starlets of that time, will thoroughly enjoy this biography of one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the Silver Screen. Gene Tierney represented her profession in a way that few actresses could. She was thoroughly dedicated to becoming a great actress, and welcomed her varied roles as challenges to entertain, yes, but to also improve her skills and stature as an actress. She was gorgeous, gracious, intelligent and sophisticated. As an actress who's film debut for Twentieth Century Fox saw her in a co-starring role, she was incredibly humble and most eager to learn.
Author Vogel details Gene's entire film career with vigor and exuberance tracing even her beginnings on the Broadway Stage and her society background to lend meaning to the girl who would someday play "Laura" in that great film noir of the same name.
But, the book also tells the heartbreaking story of a beautiful woman, who though so kind and loving; so full of life and dreams; would someday fall into an abyss of mental illness that became a nightmare of institutions and mind-rending shock treatments.
Michelle Vogel's thorough research and personal devotion to Gene Tierney's life story comes to fruition in a poignant description of the glamour of Gene's presence; the famous lovers in her life; the memorable roles in some of Hollywood's finest films; and the devastating struggle to retain sanity against a series of devastating emotional and physical blows that almost destroyed her.
Filled with many rare and lovely photographs of this enigmatic but talented actress, "Gene Tierney: A Biography" is a long-awaited memorialization of one of our most beautiful actresses and a woman who deserved so much better than what life gave her.

Dearest Michelle:I have just finished your newest book on Gene Tierney. What a touching, informative, grand tribute to this most extraordinary woman. Even though I have studied, read and inquired about Gene for more than ten years, your book has answered so many questions that I have had about her for so long. I can't thank you enough for you doing this book about a woman that was more beautiful than nearly all, stronger than most of us and greatly misunderstood. There is much more to this than you can possibly imagine, but for now, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. She needed you to do this book, and you know why. You know more than you have said or written… and for this… reat thanks are given to you. This is not the end, but a great beginning.
My warmest and most sincere regards,
